Azerbaijani/Azeri Turkish is spoken in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Also, there are Azerbaijani communities in Azerbaijan, Canada, Iraq, Sweden, Syria, Turkey and United States. Azeri Turkish is an intonational language characterized by 23 consonants, a few final consonant clusters CVC(C), and 9 vowels. The writing system in the Azeri Turkish alphabet is Arabic script. There are few studies of children’s acquisition of Azeri Turkish. These studies demonstrated that speech sounds emerge by 3;0, and children master all consonants except /d, ʣ, ʦ, ʒ, v, ɟ/ by 6 years of age. There are no data about speech sound disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, dysarthria, or cleft lip and palate in Azeri Turkish speaking children. Common speech assessments include the Azeri Speech Test and the Azeri phonological test. There is no evidence-based intervention protocol for Azeri Turkish-speaking children.
